The ATRA University

The ATRA University project is a collaboration between ATRA, ATRA chapters, and technical schools, working together to provide specialized training for students and local ATRA member staff.

The purpose is to develop technical training programs based on the needs of local ATRA Member shops. These training programs go directly to ATRA University Centers as part of their regular curriculum. This helps to ensure that University graduates are more able to produce on day one of their hire. ATRA, along with ATRA Chapters, also helps place these individuals in ATRA Member shops. It’s a better way of training, employee development, and career planning.

ATRA University Centers

ATRA operates 20 University Centers throughout the US and Canada. Each UP Center operates independently of ATRA. They incorporate ATRA training into their curriculum, host ATRA’s annual technical seminars, and work directly with shop owners to provide the best training possible for their students and technicians already employed in the transmission repair industry).

In addition, ATRA conducts training “Bootcamps” for UP Center instructors. Through this, they can learn new training techniques and skills at the ATRA corporate office in China Grove, Texas.

The growth potential is enormous, with opportunities to double or triple the current number of UP Centers.

How ATRA University Works

The ATRA University seeks to bring ATRA training into local technical schools. Local chapters provide input to ATRA to tailor their training materials based on local needs. The outcome (purpose) is to:

Shop Owners, Technicians,
and Chapters

Shop owners and technicians have specific needs based on the failures and technical problems they see. These hurdles require a local solution. After all, the technical issues in Orlando, Florida, differ from those in Denver, Colorado, and then again in Vancouver, British Columbia. Every North American city has unique challenges in keeping shops up-to-date and profitable. ATRA’s University Project works on a city-by-city and local basis.

ATRA Research Technicians
and Trainers

ATRA has some of the country’s brightest and most highly-skilled research technicians and trainers. They research problems and develop solutions to the most challenging technical issues from thousands of tech calls they receive each year. From this, they create bulletins, training materials, and technical videos and conduct live training sessions. The net beneficiary is the customer, who relies on well-trained technicians to quickly get them back on the road without unnecessary costs and repairs.

Technical Universities
and Colleges

Technical Universities and Colleges (ATRA University Centers) receive custom training materials for problems they see locally. ATRA supplements the school’s curriculum to provide each student with the best training possible. This training helps them to be better prepared after graduation to get hired and be productive at a local ATRA Member shop.

Through this program, ATRA Member transmission and full-service repair shops become the best choice for the motoring public to have their vehicles repaired. ATRA University helps to ensure that customers receive the best care possible for their repair concerns. Each year, ATRA hosts full-day training seminars across the US and Canada. These seminars highlight timely repair problems and fixes. ATRA archives these seminars for later viewing.
